Anti Wrinkle Treatment comes in many forms. The most common is using prescription medication known as Botulinum Toxin Type A which you will probably readily know as a brand name such as Botox ® (Vistabel), Dysport ® (Azzalure) and Xeomin ® (Bocouture) to name a few.
What is Botox?
In our bury clinic we use different brands of Botulinum Toxin depending on our patients wishes. The most common brand we are asked for is Azzalure ® but essentially all brands are the same toxin manufactured by different companies. Botox is the most commonly used name to describe the toxin and Botox Treatment. Botox has been used in the medical field for over 20 years.
Should it be admisnistered by a medical professional?
We know that there are many therapists who are not medically qualified who administer Botox. Whilst this is not illegal at present the law in relation to aesthetic treaments is changing. We welcome regulation and limiting the administration of prescription medication to be left to medically qualified personel for safety reasons. At Light Touch Aesthetics our staff are Level 7 Advanced Nurse Practitioners who are also prescribers. You can be assured that the anti wrinkle products injected are prescription medication compliant with UK Law.
Do I need a consultation for Botox?
As Botox treatment is prescribed you will need to have a consultation on your first visit when our advanced nurse prescribers will discuss the various anti wrinkle treatment option available to you. If you have Botox treatment at the clinic you do not need further consultations prior to future treatments as long as nothing has changed.
Does Botox hurt? How long does it last?
Botox when administered correctly is not painful due to the size of the very fine needle used to administer the product. Botox longevity depends on the patient. It generally lasts between 4 - 6 months however this can be shorter or longer. Normally results start to show between 2 -3 days post treatment with the fuller effect showing between weeks 2 - 3 .
How does Botox work? Where can you treat?
Botox works by relaxing the muscles at the injection site. It is used in millions of treatments each week across the world and is very safe when administered by a qualified medical professional.
Botox is commonly used in three areas of the face to relax fine lines and wrinkles. The Glabella better known as your frown lines. The 11 lines between your eyes and Crow’s feet which appear around the eyes. Botox is an effective treatment to relax superficial wrinkles that manifest when you move your face.
Is there any downtime with Botox? Are there any limitations using Botox?
Botox treatment at our clinic in Bury is practically painless. You can go about your day normally after treatment subject to a few limitations that allow the product to work effectively. These will be discussed as part of your aftercare.
If you are breastfeeding or a pregnant mum to be Botox treatment is not suitable. If you are pregnant speak to us as we have some other amazing alternatives that you will love.

We are often aske How long does Botox last ? The answer entirely depends on your individual body and how it absorbs the toxin but in most cases you will see the effects for 9 - 12 weeks post treatment.

Botox Mechanism of Action.
The Botulinum Toxin splits the proteins that are needed for activation of the nerves at the injection site and surrounding area. It binds to specific nerve neurotransmitters - acetylcholine. In doing so the toxin is bound to the neural transmitters that communicate with the attached muscles preventing them from contracting. Wrinkles cause by contracted muscles / skin are then smoothed and relaxed.

Dysport v Botox
Botox has approval for treating crows feet ,forehead lines in addition to glabellar lines. Dysport is approved only for glabellar lines. Generally they are a similar style of toxin.
Azzalure v Botox
Commonly mistaken by patients Dysport (a brand name) and Azzalure are one and the same. Approved for use in the UK over 10 years ago Azzalureis our preferred treatment due to the results we see in the short and longer term on a regular basis when used to treat our patients at our Bury clinic.
